I wasn't paying attention about the email client. As above, in 12 months time your Exchange upgrade is going to be pant-wettingly urgent, so you've got to tackle it at some point this year.
Surely either of the above options are simpler than finding a semi-functional Outlook replacement and training users to cope with it? Mostly what you listed. Em Client looked promising till I installed it. Otherwise it seems there really aren't any alternatives if you want scheduling to work. I know there are standalone plugins, but it's only one client for now, and we will be moving to Exchange insert version here relatively soon.
Then it's a mute point. They will either cough up money for Office , and or, wait out the Exchange upgrade. I'll just go and buy it. I just wanted to see if there were any realistic alternatives out there before I did. To continue this discussion, please ask a new question.
