In this case the only variable is the version of Word. Two versions on the same computer at the same time behaving in different ways. As for using the arrow keys instead, well, for starters, I've been using the shortcuts in question since Word v. So okay, this may be a trivial first-world problem but still I am being forced to change the way I've been working for 30 years for no apparent reason. Just another confirmation that the problem is exclusive to Word I should point out that I am talking about a keyboard combo that works perfectly fine with Word - so there is limitation imposed by the OS.
